GEMS provides experienced personnel to oversee and conduct onsite data acquisition and interpretation for offshore field programs. Our offshore staff are qualified, prepared, and empowered to make critical onsite decisions for the benefit of the client and the project assignment. We ensure that our offshore staff are appropriately safety certified and trained in relevant quality control methods. Roles of our offshore staff include:
- Onboard Geologist
- Geotechnical Engineer
- Marine Archaeologist
- Quality Assurance/Quality Control Client Represenative
- Onsite Shallow Hazards Wellsite Geologist
Onboard Geologist Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing geophysical data acquisition
- Onsite data interpretation and preliminary mapping
- Verify accurate navigation and associated documentation to ensure project compliance
- Verify accurate and complete documentation for all digital and physical records
- Documentation and final reporting of field activities
- Participation in onboard safety meetings
Onboard Geotechnical Engineer Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing geotechnical sample or in situ data acquisition
- Overseeing onsite geotechnical lab testing and sample handling procedures
- Documentation and final reporting of field activities
- Participation in onboard safety meetings
Onboard Marine Archaeologist Responsibilities Include:
- Overseeing geophysical data acquisition
- Onsite data interpretation and preliminary mapping
- Verify accurate navigation and associated documentation to ensure project compliance
- Verify accurate and complete documentation for all digital and physical records
- Documentation and final reporting of field activities
- Participation in onboard safety meetings
Quality Assurance/ Quality Control Client Representative Responsibilities include:
- Preparation or approval of daily progress reports (DPRs) and/or survey reports
- Overseeing geophysical data acquisition
- Onsite data interpretation and preliminary mapping
- Verify accurate navigation and associated documentation to ensure project compliance
- Verify accurate and complete documentation for all digital and physical records
- Documentation and final reporting of field activities
- Reporting of any/all HSE concerns to appropriate authority
- Serve as third-party liaison
- Communication to client regarding project status, scope-of-work, budget, schedule, and related onboard activities
- Participation in onboard safety meetings
Onsite Shallow Hazards Wellsite Geologist include:
- Monitor wellhead and valves for signs of Water flow, Gas, Gumbo, Oil, & Hydrates
- Monitor downhole logs via LWD/ Mudloggers (Gamma-ray, Resistivity, ROP, WoB, ECD, Temp, bit depth) and correlate with seismic data
- Inform company men, engineers, and geologists of changes observed that differ from predictions
- Inform of sand interval depths for proper placement of casing centralizers and the presence of formation fluid
- Overlay realtime and memory logs on seismic and adjusting time depth to update depths of zones of potential hazards
- Correlating seismic and logs gives a more complete picture of potential shallow hazards that might have been encountered as opposed to just looking at the wellhead
- Inform drill crew of upcoming geologic features (clay/sand interfaces, high amplitudes that could contain gas, BSR (if believed hydrates present)), or other geologic hazards that could impact drilling
- Relay formation dip and correlate with hole angle if non planed build develops
- Work with ROV to record video and capture images of key events (while drilling cuttings discharge, connections, cementing)
- Maintain detailed observation logs
- Document and communicate any geologic features or events to respected parties
- Send Daily Geohazard Reports to all client required personal
- During batch sets, correlate logs and seismic between wells and inform respected parties of depth and lithology changes that could impact drilling
- Participation in onboard safety meetings
